Yizani Sakhe Organisation
In November 2002, deep within the heart of Gugulethu, a group of visionary, unemployed women chose to stand up against the systemic crises devastating their neighborhood. Facing the combined hardships of widespread poverty, acute food insecurity, rampant unemployment, and the compounding health crises of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and tuberculosis, they refused to remain passive bystanders.
With absolutely zero operational budget and no outside funding for the first three years, these founders dipped into their own scant personal resources to supply critical meals, clothing, and home-based care to the area’s most vulnerable residents. What began as a defiant grassroots feeding scheme has, over the course of more than two decades, blossomed into a registered, highly respected, and multi-faceted non-profit organization.
Today, Yizani Sakhe stands as a living testament to the power of community-led transformation. We have fed thousands, kept children in school, created meaningful job placements, and built structural support networks where they were needed most. We don’t just offer short-term aid; we establish deep-rooted avenues toward sustainable self-sufficiency, ensuring that our people are equipped to independently navigate a dynamic economic landscape.
